Required Gear

Appropriate Sized Life Jackets.
Children must have proper sized personal floatation devices.

Flotation Device [Throwable]
Boats 16 feet or larger need a ring bouy or seat cushion.It needs to be accessible, not stowed.

Horn or Whistle
Must be in working order.

Fire Exstinguisher
All boats except those with portable gas tanks and no false floors need extinguishers.

Flares
Visual distress signals are required for boats more than two miles from shore, off shore in the gulf, or the middle of Charlotte Harbor.

Navigation Lights
This is if you’re boating at night. If your boat is not equipped, buy handheld lights.
